What is this award about?

This is an initiative to recognize young Indian Americans in our community here in and around Charlotte, who in addition to academics, have dedicated themselves in meaningful ways to pursue the public good, and make a significant difference in the lives of others, both in India as well as locally. We choose one outstanding young person to recognize, who stands out by his/her passion and demonstrated level of impact on the lives of others.

What is the award recognition?

The winner is recognized on stage in front of the entire community, during the annual Festival of India, and awarded a plaque and prize of $???.

What are the steps to apply for this award online?

  • You will need to have an account (or create one) with the India Association of Charlotte website, before you can participate in this program. 
  • Read and agree to all the Eligibility Criteria listed below.
  • Provide all requested information on the online Application Form. You will be unable to submit incomplete forms.
  • Please complete the application with due diligence, because once you have submitted it, you will be unable to make any additional changes.

How can I create an account with the India Association of Charlotte?

For the first time, when you register, you will be asked to create a new account. You will be required to validate the email address you provide during the creation of the account. This validation will happen by our system sending a validation message to your email address and you will then need to acknowledge the validation link, before your account creation process is complete.

What information/documents are needed in support of the online Application form?

  • Mission Statement or an equivalent founding document
  • A 500-700 word narrative to describe your NGO in some detail and its impact on society
  • Non Profit IRS EIN#
  • Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter
  • Copy of the most recent IRS Form 990
  • Two testimonials from beneficiaries

What is the deadline for submission of online Application forms?

Last date for submission is July 1st, 2018.

What happens after I complete the Application form and submit it?

All completed applications are then evaluated by a panel of three non IAC outside judges, and a winner declared.

How do I know the status of my Application.

The winner will be contacted by eMail & phone by ??/??/2018. The decision of the panel will be final and not subject to any appeal.

As an applicant you must meet the letter & spirit of the following requirements.

  • You must be of Indian American descent living in and around Charlotte.
  • You must be in high school or an undergraduate in college.
  • You must have founded/led an NGO with the mission of meeting some critical need within the community, that has major impact on the lives of others.
  • Your organization must be an IRS Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) registered in NC & SC.
  • Your organization must be run in a disciplined manner with an active Board of Directors. And must have been actively running for at least two years.
  • You must have a bank account for all transactions done in support of your organization.
